Although the situation has stabilized in the central Burma town of Meikhtila, where anti-Muslim riots left thousands displaced and dozens dead last month, displaced residents say arson attempts have prevented them from returning home, the Democratic Voice of Burma reported Monday. At least eight arson attempts by unknown assailants have been reported since the rioting ended in late March, a local member of the 88 Generation Peace and Open Society group told DVB. A lawmaker from Meikhtila township told the news agency that authorities were at their “wits end” because security threats were stifling attempts to help people return home.
