Aid workers in Kachin State say that a shortfall of aid from the UN World Food Program (WFP) has created a food crisis at IDP camps in government-controlled areas around the state capital Myitkyina, reports the Kachin News Group. Three camps, housing around 600 people displaced by clashes between government forces and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), are most affected by the shortage. The camps, at three Baptist churches around Myitkyina, received basic food aid from the WFP until Nov. 24, but now have to rely on church funds. There are a total of 7,000 IDPs in government-controlled territory. More than 100,000 civilians have been displaced by the conflict, most sheltering in KIA-operated camps.
