Burma’s state-run media has reported that four officials were killed on Sunday in an attack on a government office in Waingmaw Township, Kachin State, by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA). Describing the assault as a “terrorist attack,” the New Light of Myanmar said the incident was “totally unacceptable in the time of peace efforts.” In a separate incident also reported on Sunday, 200 KIA fighters were said to have captured vehicles owned by a Burmese construction company involved in the construction of dams being built with Chinese backing in the area.
