Four Burmese nationals who were arrested last week by East Timorese security forces have requested asylum in the tiny island nation. The four were aboard an illegal ship that was captured in the Timor Sea by East Timor’s Maritime Police Unit on Aug. 2. Four Indonesians were also on the same boat, according to local media reports.“These Burmese people left their country and come to Timor-Leste to ask for political asylum,” said Calistro Gonzaga, commander of the criminal investigation unit of the Timorese National Police.
