France has called on Burmese authorities to protect Muslims amid deadly violence between Buddhists and Muslim Rohingyas in Arakan State. “France attaches great importance to a peaceful and concerted resolution to ethnic questions in Burma,” French Foreign Ministry deputy spokesman Vincent Floreani was quoted as saying in a report by AFP. The ministry called for the status of Muslims in Arakan State “to be clarified with regard to right to nationality and for them to enjoy, whatever their status, full respect for human rights.”
