Former Thai Prime Minister Abhisit was officially charged with murder on Thursday by the Department of Special Investigation for allowing the unrestrained use of deadly force against protesters. The murder charge against Abhisit stems from the violent suppression of anti-government protests in 2010 when demonstrators were seeking to have Abhisit call early elections, saying he was installed in office illegitimately. Speaking to reporters after meeting for more than four hours with DSI officials on Thursday, Abhisit said he had formally acknowledged the charge against him, but denied he was guilty. He said he would present documents supporting his position after studying the charge more closely. —AP
