Former Burmese Political Prisoner Told to Return Jail Uniform
11 April 2013
Five years after receiving amnesty, a prominent activist from the National League for Democracy who spent nearly 20 years incarcerated for political activities has been asked to return the prison uniform he wore the day he was released, AFP reported Wednesday. Win Tin, 83, who has close ties to democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi, said he no longer had the uniform and refused to repay officials US $2 for its cost. He said he continued to wear blue clothing, like the old prison uniform, to show the world that Burma was not fully free.
