Democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi met a former UK health minister to discuss renovations of Burma’s biggest hospital, Eleven Media reported on Wednesday. Suu Kyi and Lord Ara Darzi were joined by Shwe Mann, speaker of Burma’s lower house of Parliament, for the meeting on Tuesday to consider practical ways of upgrading the century-old Rangoon General Hospital. Last weekend Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party fund-raised 400 million kyat (US $460,000) for the renovation, the news agency reported, adding that the opposition leader hoped the project would help set a new benchmark for other hospitals in the country.
