Doctors in Burma have recorded the first increase in dengue cases after the first monsoon rains fell recently, Eleven Media reports. “Although there were one or two dengue fever patients last month, we started seeing more patients with symptoms of dengue fever within one or two days after it rained. As the number of dengue fever cases was high last year, we need to be cautious,” Dr. Si Thu from the Myanmar Medical Association said. Mosquitoes that transmit dengue breed in clear water during monsoon season and feed during the day, putting especially children at risk. The disease can be fatal when it escalates and causes hemorrhaging in patients.
