A retired professor from China’s Beijing Foreign Languages University will give 27 poor and outstanding students from Burma annual stipends of 200,000 kyat (US $206) to help support their university education, reports China’s Xinhua news agency. Former Burmese-language professor Su Xiuyu, 85, said at a ceremony in Rangoon that it was her “China dream” to “contribute my might in disseminating Paukphaw [brotherly] friendship” between China and Burma. Earlier this year, President Thein Sein conferred on her the title of “Saddhamma Jotikadhaja” for her outstanding contribution to the cause of education, religious affairs, social welfare and China-Burma friendship.
