A Vietnamese athlete who came in second in the 20-km walking competition at the SEA Games on Sunday said she lost to gold-medalist Saw Mar Lar Nwe because the Burmese athlete “walked and ran” her way to the finish line, reports Vietnam’s Thanh Nien news agency. Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc, who was defending her title in the event, burst into tears as she completed the event 2 minutes and 5 seconds behind Saw Mar Lar New, who had received two red cards for running. A third violation would have disqualified her. As of 10:50 Wednesday morning in Burma, Vietnam is in second place behind Thailand with a total of 146 medals, including 49 golds, while Burma is in third with 132 medals (47 of them gold).
