Burmese and Cambodian citizens can now visit each other’s countries without visas, Burma’s state media reported on Wednesday. The mutual visa exemption, which applies to holders of ordinary passports, was signed into effect by Burmese Deputy Foreign Minister Tin Oo Lwin and Cambodia’s ambassador to Burma, Sieng Burvuthin, in Naypyidaw. Direct flights between Burma and Cambodia were first established in February 2011, when Myanmar Airways International started flying between Rangoon and Siem Reap, near Cambodia’s Angkor Wat. Later that same year, the airline added the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh to its list of destinations.
