The Working Group for Ethnic Coordination, an alliance of Burmese ethnic minority groups, will hold a three-day conference in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai beginning on Sept. 14. The event will be attended by a variety of organizations, including ceasefire and non-ceasefire armed groups, political parties, NGOs and women’s and youth organizations. At least 100 people will attend the event, said Khun Okkar, a member of the conference organizing committee, according to a report by Mizzima. The meeting will focus on preparing for multilateral peace talks with Burma’s government.
