Burma is likely to hold by-elections this year for up to 29 vacant parliamentary constituencies, according to sources cited by Eleven Media. A report Thursday said that although officials have dismissed calls for another poll before general elections next year, sources close to the Union Election Commission (UEC) said a vote was likely during 2014. “According to last year’s data, there are 15 vacant constituencies. But the latest unconfirmed data from UEC sources says that there are 20 to 29 vacant constituencies,” Eleven Media said. By-elections in April 2012 saw the National League for Democracy win almost all the seats contested.
