Burma Army soldiers opened fire in a village in Kachin State’s Hpakant Township on Monday, killing a truck driver and injuring three villagers, Democratic Voice of Burma reports. A Light Infantry Division 88 convoy passed through Shadusoot village and shot dead 48-year-old Kun Htet Naw, while injuring a woman, a six-year-old child and another villager, a local charity worker said. The woman was shot in the buttock and the child in the thigh. The shooting seems to have been conducted in retaliation for a Kachin Independence Army ambush on the convoy earlier on Monday, but details on this attack were scarce.
