Police say two bombs targeting security forces went off in a commercial area in Thailand’s insurgency-plagued south but no one was injured. Police Col. Tuanday Juthanan says one bomb exploded outside a shopping mall in Pattani city Thursday. He says the second device was found outside an auto showroom near the mall, hidden in a gas canister, and it exploded when a bomb squad attempted to defuse it. The explosions shattered the windows but did not hurt or kill anyone. More than 5,000 people have been killed in Thailand’s three southernmost provinces since an Islamist insurgency erupted in 2004.—AP
