25 March 2014
A fire at the Karen refugee camp of Mae La, located on the Thai-Burma border in Tha Song Yang district, Tak province, resulted in the loss of 18 huts on Monday night, The Bangkok Post reports. “Fire engines rushed to the scene brought the flames under control about an hour later. The fire destroyed 18 thatched houses, and about 18 other houses were demolished to prevent the blaze from spreading,” the paper reported. “No one was hurt and the cause of the fire was still being investigated.” Local Thai authorities delivered food, water and other relief supplies to affected refugees.
