The BBC announced on Monday that three of its television channels—BBC World News, BBC Entertainment and Cbeebies—will be available in Burma from Jan. 1, 2013. The three channels, together with the BBC World Service in English, will be carried by the Forever Group’s pay TV platform and will potentially reach around 250,000 homes in Burma, the British broadcaster said. The Burmese-language version of the BBC World Service has long been available in Burma via shortwave radio, but this is the first time in decades that the broadcaster has been allowed to operate legally inside the country.
