The Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF), an armed ethic group, has objected to the government’s census listing of the Palaung (Ta’aung) tribe as a Shan race, the Myanma Freedom Daily reports. “We, Ta’aung, settled down in this land before the Shan,” said Mai Eik Kyaw, PSLF information officer said. “We are not the same with other races. We live in mountainous area and have a different culture and language,” said PSLF Commander-in-Chief Tar Ho Parlin. A nationwide census is to be held in March and will be the first such survey to be organized in Burma in decades.
