Eleven ethnic Arakanese Buddhists have been released on bail after they were detained in connection with violence in Thandwe, Arakan State, in October, DVB reports. The 11 men, including the chairman of the Rakhine Nationalities Development Party (RNDP), are among more than 90 people arrested in connection with the violence, in which at least seven people were killed. The 11 Arakanese will still face trial under Article 505(c) of the Burmese Penal Code, according to Thandwe RNDP Chairman Maung Pu, but the men were granted bail because they “were residents actively working in the interest of the town; it’s not likely we will skip bail.”
