TOKYO—Global beer consumption in 2019 rose for the second straight year backed by strong demand in Asia and Africa in tandem with their economic growth, major Japanese beverage company Kirin Holdings Co. said Wednesday.

Global consumption edged up 0.5 percent to 189.05 million kiloliters, with people in the Asian and African regions spending more on beer, logging year-on-year gains of 0.7 percent and 5.2 percent, respectively.
