Burma’s Interim Press Council said it won’t get involved in a dispute between the government and the weekly journal Thuriya Nay Win over the latter’s alleged breach of journalistic ethics. According to a report by Mizzima, the council’s secretary, Kyaw Min Swe, said the body had declined a request from the Ministry of Information to mediate in the case because “it has no right to put pressure on the journal as it is only a provisional council.” He added, however, that he would forward the ministry’s letter, sent on Dec. 12, to Thuriya Nay Win “so that they are informed of what is being demanded.”
