Over 50 Myanmar Junta Forces Killed in Four Days of Resistance Attacks

At least 51 Myanmar junta forces including pro-junta militia members were killed in the last four days as People’s Defense Force groups (PDFs) and ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) stepped up attacks on regime targets across the country.

Incidents were reported in Magwe and Sagaing regions and Chin, Shan and Karen states.

The Irrawaddy has collected the following reports of significant attacks from PDFs and EAOs.

Yesagyo PDF said it and Pakokku PDF Battalion 9 killed six pro-junta Pyu Saw Htee militia members in Yesagyo Township, Magwe Region last Friday when they ambushed a militia vehicle traveling between the pro-military villages of Gway Cho and Sin Chaung.

Five weapons and some ammunition were seized, the PDF group said.

Military unit hit by land mine attack in Sagaing

Many regime forces were injured in Ye-U Township, Sagaing Region on Sunday when Shwebo District PDF Battalion 14 conducted a series of land mine ambushes against a military unit of 150 troops who were raiding villages, said the PDF group.

Military flotilla ambushed in Sagaing

Myaung Special People’s Defense Force (MSPDF) said it and other PDF groups ambushed two military vessels escorting a barge transporting logs on the Chindwin River last Friday.

The resistance groups used rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and improvised rocket bombs to attack the junta ships. Details of the damage and military casualties were unknown.

Regime base bombed by drones in Sagaing

Kyaukse District PDF Battalion 1 claimed to have killed 30 regime forces as it and two resistance groups used drones to drop bombs on regime forces and pro-junta Pyu Saw Htee militia members in the pro-regime village of Ngwe Dwin in Ayadaw Township, Sagaing Region on Saturday night.

The resistance group told the media that its bombs directly hit one of the junta forces’ main buildings, where several dozen soldiers and militia members were sleeping after a session of heavy drinking.

The Irrawaddy could not independently verify the PDF’s claim about the regime casualties.

Military camp bombed by resistance drones in Sagaing

At least 10 regime forces were killed and seven others injured in Myinmu Township, Sagaing Region on Saturday morning when five resistance groups used drones to drop bombs on a military camp in Htee Saung Village, said Kyaukse District PDF Battalion 1, which took part in the drone strike mission.

Four pro-junta Pyu Saw Htee militia members suffered serious injuries in Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region on Saturday when local resistance groups used land mines to ambush 10 militia forces that were leaving Myin Chin Village to begin sentry duty, said Snake Eyes PDF, which joined the ambush.

At least three regime forces were killed and a resistance fighter injured in a shootout in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region on Saturday when local resistance groups ambushed a military unit from a nearby base while heading to At Taw Village to extort money from residents, said Student Armed Forces, which joined the ambush.

Junta troops attacked while stealing logs in Sagaing

Fighter Brotherhood Guerrilla Army (FBGA) said it and other PDFs fired many improvised mortar rounds at regime forces planning to steal logs outside Pan Tain Pyin Village in Kani Township, Sagaing Region last Thursday.

After being shelled, the regime forces responded with heavy explosives and firearms. Military casualties were unknown.

Military unit attacked while trying to destroy road in northern Shan

Many regime forces were killed or injured in Muse Township, northern Shan State on Sunday when the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) attacked a military unit with a bulldozer while attempting to destroy a road between Nant Taung and Phar Phaint villages, said the TNLA.

The junta destroyed the road once before, on Aug. 15, but the TNLA repaired it on Aug. 23.

On Saturday, the TNLA also attacked a military convoy of 24 vehicles traveling from Kutkai to Hseni Township.

Clash breaks out in Mindat, Chin State

At least seven junta soldiers were injured in Mindat Township, Chin State on Saturday when a clash between regime forces and ethnic Chin resistance groups broke out outside Mindat town, said the Defense Ministry of the civilian Nation Unity Government (NUG).

At least five regime forces were killed and 10 injured in Kawkareik Township, Karen State on Saturday when resistance groups including the country’s oldest ethnic armed group, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), conducted drone strikes using 107-mm and 60-mm bombs on two regime bases, said resistance drone force Cloud Wings, which was involved in the attacks.

After being bombed, junta forces used 120-mm and 81-mm rounds to indiscriminately shell nearby villages, injuring a villager.
