Ending a visit to Burma’s strife-torn Arakan State on Monday, a US delegation led by Ambassador Derek Mitchell expressed concern about the aftermath of clashes that broke out there in June between Arakanese Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims. In a statement issued on Monday, the US embassy in Rangoon said, “Broad swathes of both communities have been affected, and the humanitarian situation remains of great concern.” Another delegation led by senior envoy Joseph Yun will make a three-day visit to Bangladesh starting Tuesday to assess the situation of Rohingya refugees there.
