President’s Office spokesman Ye Htut has brushed aside concerns that Burma’s relationship with the United States is suffering as a result of its policies towards the Rohingya, The Myanmar Times reports. Last week, the US House of Representatives passed a resolution regarding persecution of the Muslim minority. “The government of Burma remains apathetic to the plight of the Rohingya population and has failed to properly investigate the major events of anti-Rohingya violence,” it said. “I don’t see it as an obstacle,” Ye Htut said about the resolution. “Members of Congress need to understand the [Arakan State] situation thoroughly, not only listening to the lobbies and some activists.”
