Burma’s President Thein Sein will travel to the Philippines next week for his first visit since assuming office, according to the host country’s Department of Foreign Affairs. During the visit, the Burmese president will meet with his Filipino counterpart Benigno Aquino III to discuss issues of mutual concern, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, agriculture, energy, cultural exchanges and information cooperation. The two leaders will also take up regional issues, including Burma’s chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in 2014. They had their first bilateral meeting in Naypyidaw on June 7, when Aquino attended the World Economic Forum on East Asia.
