Thein Sein, Thai PM to Discuss Dawei Port Project at Asean Summit
25 April 2013
President Thein Sein is set to meet with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra this afternoon on the sidelines of the Asean Summit in Brunei to discuss progress on the Dawei infrastructure project currently under construction, according to The Nation. Targeted investment in the joint venture, of which a Dawei deep-sea port is a centerpiece, stands at more than US $10 billion, though funding shortages and investor hesitancy have slowed progress on the project. Yingluck’s cabinet recently established a technical committee to oversee the project, which is located in Tenasserim Division and will be designated a special economic zone.
