The Thai Navy is preparing to file a lawsuit against Reuters, the Bangkok Post reports, a case that would make the news agency the second media outlet to face defamation accusations for reporting on alleged trafficking of Rohingya Muslims by Thai security forces. “This involves national security,” Vice-Adm Tharathorn Khajitsuwan, a commander of the 3rd Navy Fleet, was quoted as saying. “We cannot allow anyone to go around freely making false accusations.” Last week, a lawsuit was brought against the Thai news outlet Phuketwan for reprinting excerpts from a Reuters report that said Rohingya fleeing persecution in Burma were being smuggled by the Thai navy and other security forces.
