Norwegian telecoms company Telenor, which last week won one of two licenses to operate in Burma, plans to introduce third-generation (3G) service to the country in 2014, according to a report by The Bangkok Post. The company aims to complete the nationwide roll-out of its 2G and 3G network using high-speed packet access (HSPA) technology within five years under an undisclosed investment, the report said. “A full range of mobile services, both 2G and 3G mobile data service, will be commercially launched next year,” said Telenor Asia’s communications director, Glenn Mandelid. Telenor will also install 4G-ready base stations in Burma, Mandelid added.
