Suu Kyi Named Honorary Citizen of Paris
28 June 2012
Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi was made an honorary citizen of Paris on Wednesday, the latest honor to be bestowed upon her during her historic tour of Europe. “You are a woman of peace and love, and this is why Paris also loves you,” said Mayor Bertrand Delanoehe at a ceremony in the French capital. Her three-day trip to France, which ends on Thursday, is the final leg of a two-week visit that has seen Suu Kyi receive treatment normally reserved for heads of state, in addition to numerous awards.
