Shan State Army rebels have requested Chinese authorities provide temporary shelters for thousands of refugees who fled recent fighting in Shan State, the Shan Herald Agency for News reported on Tuesday. “On humanitarian grounds, we would like to request the Chinese government to accommodate the refugees,” SHAN quoted Lt Col Zawm Mong, an SSA commander, as saying. Earlier in the week, the Burmese military launched a new offensive against Shan ethnic armed groups. The New Light of Myanmar reported on Wednesday that a China-backed pipeline in Shan State had been attacked by gunmen, killing two.
