A group known as the Peace Network held a public prayer gathering in Rangoon on Saturday to mark the one-year anniversary of the war in Kachin State. Around 1,000 people joined the ceremony, according to 88 Generation Students group leader Mya Aye, who was one of the event’s organizers. At the ceremony, which called for an end to the conflict, the 88 Generation Students group also made a donation of 4,700,000 kyat (US $5,600) to assist refugees displaced by fighting between the Burmese army and the Kachin Independent Army.
