Parties Call for Quintana's Dismissal
14 August 2012
Representatives of 24 Burmese political parties say UN human rights envoy Tomas Ojea Quintana should be removed from his post for alleged bias in his reporting on the recent violence between Arakanese Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims in Arakan State. In a meeting with an aide to UN special adviser on Burma Vijay Nambiar, the parties called for Quintana to be replaced, charging him with taking the Rohingyas’ side in the conflict, according to Radio Free Asia. Quintana recently traveled to the state, where he was accused of ignoring Arakanese displaced by the conflict.
