Around 200 Buddhist monks and ethnic Arakanese gathered near Sule Pagoda in downtown Rangoon on Thursday to call for the expulsion of Rohingya Muslims from Arakan State. The crowd also accused government security forces of killing Arakanese. “The death of Rakhines [Arakanese] is not really by the Bengalis [Rohingyas] but mostly by the military. The army is shooting us,” said Sit Nyein, a protester from Minbya Township in Arakan State. They also demanded that the government investigate the citizenship status of four Muslim lawmakers from Arakan State serving in Burma’s Parliament.
