A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck northwestern Burma near the border with India on Tuesday, according to the Press Trust of India. The tremor hit at around 7:16 pm and was felt throughout India’s remote northeastern states, the report said. No damage was reported on the Indian side of the border, and information about the quake’s impact in Burma was not available. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the exact epicenter of the quake was 23.9ºN, 93.9º E, placing it just inside Chin State, opposite the Indian state of Manipur. The quake was recorded at a depth of 33 km.
