The United States will provide US $100,000 in aid to help residents displaced after recent sectarian violence in the central Burma city of Meikhtila, the Myanmar Times reported on Thursday. The aid will include hygiene kits, blankets, utensils, plastic sheeting, emergency water and sanitation, US Department of State spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters in Washington earlier this week. At least 40 people were killed in three days of clashes beginning on March 20 between Buddhists and Muslims in the city, with anti-Muslim riots spreading to Pegu Division since then.
