Landmine Use Continues in Conflict Zones: Report

22 May 2012

Civilians living in war-torn parts of eastern Burma remain under serious threat from landmines, according to a new report released on Monday. The report, “Uncertain Ground: Landmine use in eastern Burma,” by the Karen Human Rights Group, found that both state and non-state armed groups are still using landmines in conflict zones despite recent moves to end open hostilities. The report urges humanitarian assistance to address the issue, which it says “must be taken into account during any discussion of refugee repatriation.”
