Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, one of Japan’s “big four” law firms, is setting up an office in Rangoon in response to the rapid expansion of Japanese companies in Burma, reports the website TheLawyer.com. The move is the firm’s latest expansion in Southeast Asia, following the opening of an office in Singapore in 2012. The Rangoon office will be staffed by Takeshi Mukawa, who is co-representative of the firm’s Singapore office. Mukawa’s practice focuses on finance, general corporate and M&A transactions, and he is also experienced in Burma-related matters, according to the report. The firm also has offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Bangkok.
