Japan’s government has offered to permit students from Burma to enroll in its National Defense Academy, according to a report by the Yomiuri Shimbun. The Japanese Defense Ministry said authorities from both nations agreed to promote defense exchanges when Administrative Vice Defense Minister Hironori Kanazawa visited Burma in February. During the visit, Japan proposed to accept students from Burma, according to sources quoted by the Yomiuri. The report noted that Burma’s government has sought not only investment but also defense exchanges from Western nations.
