India Urges Burma to Act against Insurgents
6 November 2012
India has renewed calls on Burma to crack down on insurgent groups operating out of Burmese territory bordering India’s remote northeast, according to a report by The Assam Tribune. The issue was discussed at the Twelfth India-Myanmar Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi on Monday, the report said. Deputy Foreign Minister Thant Kyaw led the Burmese delegation for the talks, while India Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai represented the New Delhi government. The two countries have recently stepped up efforts to improve relations, but India’s security concerns remain a sore point.
