The head of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, will visit Burma for the first time next week, according to a press release from the global lender. “I will visit three countries in different stages of transition—Korea, the world’s 13th largest economy; Cambodia, a frontier economy on the rise; and Myanmar [Burma], undergoing a great awakening to countless possibilities,” Lagarde said in the statement. The IMF chief will visit Rangoon and Naypyidaw from Dec. 6-7, and will meet with Vice President Nyan Tun and Central Bank Governor Kyaw Kyaw Maung, as well as opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
