The owner of the Zwegabin United Football Club could be charged with assault for slapping a referee in the face during a national league game in Karen State last week, reports DVB. Hla Htay marched onto the pitch after his team lost to Mandalay-based Yadanarbon FC in Hpa-an and slapped referee Hla Min in the face instead of shaking his hand, as is customary after a match. Hla Min awarded two penalty kicks in the second half to Yadanarbon, which won the game 2-1. The Myanmar Football Federation’s Referees Committee sent a letter of complaint to the federation’s Disciplinary Committee, labelling the slap an insult to the entire Referees Committee. It said Hla Min could press assault charges against Hla Htay if he is not satisfied with the Disciplinary Committee’s decision.
