Three ex-employees of the state-run New Light of Myanmar newspaper who are accused of embezzling almost US$300,000 from the publication are facing four charges under Burma’s Public Property Protection Act, The Myanmar Times reports. Manager Tun Tun Latt, Assistant Manager Win Myint and Assistant Distribution Manager Kyaw Min Oo, are alleged to have misappropriated nearly 289 million kyats in advertising and sales revenues from 2008-11. The case came to light after the newspaper’s chief editor lodged a complaint with police following an audit that found the money missing in January 2012. The accused will stand trial at the Western Rangoon District Court.
