Chinese Delegation Visits Burma
3 December 2012
A Chinese government delegation arrived at Rangoon International Airport on Sunday, according to the state-run newspaper The New Light of Myanmar. The delegation was led by Xu Zenhuan of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He was welcomed by Upper House Foreign Affairs Committee member Khin Maung. The newspaper was short on details about the delegation’s schedule, other than mentioning that it had visited Shwedagon Pagoda. The visit comes at a time of growing anti-Chinese sentiment in Burma, following the violent crackdown last week on a protest against a Chinese-backed copper mine in northwestern Burma.
