27 March 2013

Burma’s commander in chief said the military will continue to play a political role as it supports the country’s transition to democracy. Speaking to thousands of troops at the annual Armed Forces Day celebration, Snr-Gen Min Aung Hlaing said on Wednesday that the military must strengthen its capabilities with modern weaponry and training. He also said the country would like to deepen military engagement with other countries, particularly within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and will abide by international human rights conventions.
