Burma’s navy will join 16 other maritime forces participating in a naval exercise organized by India, reports the New Indian Express newspaper. Australia and Singapore will also be taking part in the biennial Milan exercise in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the first time, the report added. “While 14 foreign navies participated in its previous edition, Milan 2014 is slated to be the largest ever gathering with the participation by navies and maritime forces of 17 countries,” said Rear Adm. R. B. Pandit, the assistant chief of naval staff for foreign cooperation. Milan was started in 1995 and now includes maritime forces from the larger Indian Ocean Region.
