Burma’s government-owned English-language newspaper The New Light of Myanmar is seeking a business partner to help it transform into a more independent media organization, AFP reports. “We have agreed with the (information) ministry to invite interested persons for the tender of running the New Light of Myanmar English version,” a member of the Public Service Media Governing Body told AFP. “It will not be possible for the ministry to run a daily paper efficiently in terms of human resources.” The paper is one of three media outlets used by the previous military government as a propaganda unit. But as Burma reforms it was announced the papers would be transformed into “public service media.”
