A Kachin Independence Army (KIA) captain and a rebel soldier were killed and one was injured during a Burma Army ambush in southern Kachin State’s Mansi Township on Saturday, Kachin News Group reports. The government troops attacked a KIA unit near the internally displaced persons camp of Nam Lim Pa, which the Burma Army surrounded and conquered in recent weeks. KIA Capt Hpaude Hkang Maw and Palai Naw Lai were killed, KIA battalion 12 Maj Labang Jawn Awng said. “Government forces ambushed us on a road. We mistakenly entered an area that was surrounded by them,” he was quoted as saying.
