Myanmar’s health minister, Dr. Myint Htwe, has resigned after the military coup.
He is one of the leaders in the country’s fight against COVID-19.
Education minister Dr. Myo Thane Gyi, information minister Dr. Pe Myint and transport minister U Thant Zin Maung have been told to vacate their houses within three days.
“I am leaving the Ministry of Health and Sports. I am leaving Naypyitaw in three days,” Dr. Myint Htwe posted on Facebook on Monday afternoon.
His post said he asked his colleagues to serve the people, especially during the COVID-19 crisis and the vaccination rollout.
Myanmar launched a nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive by inoculating health-care personnel, including volunteers on the COVID-19 frontline and parliamentarians, on Jan. 27.
Myanmar is third in terms of vaccinations in Asean, behind Singapore and Indonesia.
