As part of a township-hopping tour across the country in support of Burma’s main opposition party, a group of local singers and celebrities took to the stage in Mandalay on Wednesday, entertaining a sea of red-clad supporters.
The performance troupe, which includes pop singers Connie, Thantharwin, Yuzana, Yan Yan Chan, Tu Tu, female rocker She and hip-hop star Anegga, performed at Mandalay’s Manawyaman ground, entertaining the crowd with songs dedicated to the National League for Democracy (NLD) and its chairwoman Aung San Suu Kyi.

On a day Burmese across the country celebrated Thadingyut, which marks the end of Buddhist Lent, NLD supporters in Mandalay flocked to the event wearing red tops printed with images of Suu Kyi and the party’s logo, red head bands, and waving red flags.
“We are so energized to see that the people of Mandalay love the color red so much,” said actor Lu Min, who was also part of the group, as he greeted the crowd.
In between songs, members of the group urged the crowd to vote for change on Nov. 8.
“Hearing the songs for the NLD is so inspiring and strengthens our support for the [party],” said Zaw Min, who brought along his family, all decked out in red for the occasion. “We love mother Suu and trust that she is the only person who can change our country for real democracy.”
